Read the Signs to De-Code Your Date – Part 1
What is your date really like? Beyond conversation, you can get to know someone on another level by learning to read the signs. Matchmaker Christi shares the ultimate guide for the beginning stages of your relationship, so you know what to look out for on your date and can de-code exactly what it means.
Where is your date?
A traditional restaurant: A classic, traditional choice for a classic, traditional person. Your date is a cordial type who wants to converse with you in a more private setting.
An ethnic restaurant: Your date likes to explore and be immersed in culture. They are very interested in what is going on in the world and are extremely passionate.
The hottest new restaurant: Always ahead of the trends, your date is a socialite. They have a close bond with their friends and are always ready to have fun.
A box office hit: Perhaps a little bit shy, most of the date is enjoying the experience together. They might not be the best at starting conversation, so seeing a movie that’s a box office hit gives a common topic to talk about afterwards.
A brand new movie: A true movie buff, this person has a true passion for film. They appreciate the world of fantasy and have a sense of wonder.
Something adventurous: They have an adventurous, wild side and are ready to conquer the world. This person has tons of confidence and is ready to live life on the edge and wants to know if you are too.
Something laid back: This is a person who likes to feel relaxed and comfortable with their significant other. As a test to see if things go naturally, they want to see if you two click immediately and with ease.
How are they dressed?
Dressed to impress: They are taking the date seriously; it’s important to them. They always put their best foot forward, no matter the situation, and like to impress.
Dressed for the situation: If you need to dress up for your date due to the location, you can see how their formal style stacks up. A suit shows more sophistication, while a button-down can be a sign that they are more easygoing.
Jeans and a tee: A casual type with an easy personality. Putting just enough effort to look cool, calm, and collected. They are dressing for the date but still show off their personality.
Sweats: This person isn’t tied to social norms. Dressing only for themselves, they don’t necessarily care how the outside world perceives them.
Trendy: A fun-loving attitude with a passion for what’s going on in the world around them. They genuinely give off a cool vibe and are fun to be around.
Runway-esque: Wearing something straight off the runway might be a sign that they’re trying too hard and are uncomfortable in the dating scene.
What is their body language?
Light touching: A sign that this person is very interested and is having a great time with you. They like physical signs of communication and it is a big part of their personality as a way of showing how much they care.
Handsy: They might take physical contact a little too much, too soon for you. This type of person might be fun for the short term but generally doesn’t translate into a long term relationship.
Leaves you wanting more: Interested in learning more, this person is suggesting they feel a sense of trust but need a little time to see where things might go between you two. They know how the dating game is played and leave you wanting to know more about them.
Rambles on: Telling you about all their skeletons in their closet shows that they might have trouble with boundaries. Saying everything there is to know about themselves shows they are a chatty type who can make conversation with anyone.
Shy and reserved: If they’re having trouble keeping eye contact, your date is interested but probably not be a great communicator. They need to warm up to new people and new situations.
Not feeling it: Crossed arms and letting you lead the conversation instead of a back-and-forth can be a sign of disinterest.
Getting to know someone beyond what they say is important, especially when meeting someone new. Once you’ve mastered reading these signs, you’ll feel like you’ve known your date forever – even if it’s a first date! Take things to the next level by learning more ways to de-code your date in Part 2 next week.
